The 30 Best Christmas Stories for Kids
Christmas is just around the corner. Snow has already started falling – at least it has for those of us in the Midwest – and stores are blasting the same 10 Christmas songs on a loop. And while the malls may be packed, and traffic unbearable, the joy of the season still finds a way into your everyday life.
At Frostbeard, we love the holidays. The streets around our Minneapolis studio fill with twinkling lights and our husky dog, Tonks, gets to play in the snow to her heart’s content as we watch from inside sipping our hot chocolate and reading by the glow of our latest winter collection of book inspired candles. One of our favorite activities to partake in during the holidays is reading with our younger loved ones. Christmas stories and holiday tales make for a great way to grow closer to those you love. Young or old, everyone enjoys hearing the classic tales of Christmastime all over again. Here are 30 of our favorite Christmas stories for kids that you should read with those you love this Christmas season.
Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer
You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen; but do you recall the most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer earns the title of a “Christmas classic” on this list for sure. Reread the story of the little reindeer that trumped all odds to become one of Santa’s best helpers and then rewatch the film adaptation later on.
The Gift of the Magi
Della only has one dollar and eighty-seven cents to buy her beloved husband a Christmas present. The only other item of worth she has is her beautiful long brown hair. Set during the turn of the twentieth century, this Christmas classic shows us all the true meaning of Christmas. After you’re done with the book, you can most likely catch a stage production of this Christmas tale at your local theater or see a film adaptation on any major network.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
What is Christmas? Is it packages and ribbons and bows? Does it come in a box, from a store; or is it something more? How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is one of the most popular works of Dr. Seuss and is the perfect way to get your loved one in the Christmas spirit.
The Polar Express
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
Clement Clarke Moore first penned this now famous poem way back in 1822. Or so he claims. The original poem was actually published anonymously with numerous writers coming forth to claim its origin. The well-known poem can be found in many different iterations through unique visuals, but the words always stay the same. Pick your favorite version and give this old tale a new life this Christmas.
